Top 35 – October 4

The rankings are slowly expanding, as I try to mash in teams that weren’t in the top 25 but have played tournaments with teams that were in the top 25 and have played something. IT IS DIFFICULT. So, these are probably really bad rankings.

It should be noted that last year in the final pre-nationals rankings, the 100th team had a PPB of about 19.

They aren’t in there yet, but I’m sure Arcadia B and East Chapel Hill will be showing up in the rankings at some point.

(No puns this time, though I did fight off the temptation to basically pull quotes from Pokemon Silver/Gold’s radio and haphazardly paste them around. LOYOLA’s is so cool, no? DUNBAR A is too picky!)

August and September tournaments

Here’s a list of tournaments of interest to this blog that will be held in August and September!

For those curious: I’ll be focusing on “varsity” tournaments for this. That means tourneys that are not closed to frosh/soph, JV, or novice teams, or anything along those lines.

8/27 – DAR High School Southeast Season Opener – IS-107 – Grant, Alabama

Lexington and Concord Invitational – IS-99A – Conyers, Georgia

9/17 – Ezell Harding Academic Tournament – House write – Antioch, Tennessee

9/24 – Harding Kickoff Tournament – Minnesota novice set (open to all teams?) – Searcy, Arkansas

9/24 – Sue Pasco Memorial Tournament – IS-101A – Essex High School (Essex Junction, Vermont)

9/24 – L.L. Lewis Cup – IS-108A – Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, Oklahoma)

Corrected Post-Season Rankings

I erred in a few ways with the rankings:

  • Most notably, I omitted Bergen County, Wayzata, and Detroit Country Day. I’ve placed these teams at 55, 59, and 53, respectively.
  • I failed to list Grand Junction (120) and Simon Kenton (77) as teams that entered the rankings after the pre-nationals rankings.
  • There were some errors with the previous rankings for LASA B, Oak Park River Forest, Johnson Central, and Canyon Crest; these have been corrected.

Thanks to Jon Pinyan for finding these corrections.

The updated rankings are after the jump; I stuck at 133 teams, since I didn’t feel like finding an additional 2 or 7 teams to stick in there.

Post-Season Top 130

Before I launch into the rankings, I should note my view points.

1) Attendance at HSNCT and/or NSC  is key to producing a valued ranking of a team; these performances were extremely heavily weighted in this ranking. Teams that did not attend either national were eligible to be ranked, but did see drops down the rankings.

2) Because there is no perfect format, I don’t agree 100% with the final order of finish from either the NSC or HSNCT. I think the NSC tends to be closer due to the problems caused by double elimination, but there were certainly issues with this year’s NSC that are well discussed at this point. I looked at who teams beat, their numbers, and so forth.

3) I ended up with 130 teams ranked, so I thought I’d just as well post them.

Thanks to everyone for reading the rankings this season. I hope you enjoyed them and that you were able to learn something from it, and that they were of value to the community.

Here are the final rankings:
