2017 HSQBRank All-World Team: Second Team

Here are the quizbowl players who have earned recognition on the All-World Second Team.

Captain: Daniel Xu, senior
Ithaca High School, Ithaca, New York

Xu joins Casey Wetherbee as selections from Ithaca. Ithaca’s success this year includes a third place finish at the Princeton High School Academic Tournament and tournament championships at the Scarlet Knight Winter Invitational and the Brainbusters Fall Tournament.

Alex Donovan, junior
Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School, St. Louis, Missouri

Alex is the first player to be selected from MICDS. He guided MICDS to a championship at the WUSTL High School Academic Challenge.

Andy Huff, senior
St. John’s School, Houston, Texas

Andy is the first All-World selection from St. John’s. Andy was the leading scorer for the St. John’s team that finished second at the TQBA State Championship and the ICT mirror of the Texas Invitational.

Shub Mehta, senior
Paul M. Dorman High School, Roebuck, South Carolina

Shub was also a second team selection last year. His led the way for Dorman’s victories at the West Point Spring Invitational and the South Carolina State Championship.

Austin Morton, senior
Detroit Catholic Central High School, Novi, Michigan

A player from DCC has been selected to the second team every year of the All-World awards. Austin was the leading scorer for DCC’s impressive win on the Saturday of the Texas Invitational.

Ashwin Ramaswami, senior
Chattahoochee High School, Johns Creek, Georgia

Ashwin was named a recipient of honorable mention recognition last season. Ashwin paced Chattahoochee’s very strong performance against college teams at the University of Georgia’s Penn Bowl mirror.

Pranav Sivakumar, senior
Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, Aurora, Illinois

Pranav joins Michael Etzkorn as an All-World second team selection from IMSA. Pranav guided IMSA to a third place finish at the Huskie Bowl and in the Highly Competitive division of the David Riley Memorial Tournament at Stevenson High School.

Ethan Skinner, junior
Davis Senior High School, Davis, California
Eliot Williams, senior
Davis Senior High School, Davis, California

Ethan and Eliot are the first two players to be selected from Davis Senior High School. The tournaments they combined to win this year include the Sacramento Spring Tournament, Sacramento Winter Tournament, and California Cup #3.

Clark Smith, junior
Dublin Scioto High School, Dublin, Ohio

Clark is the first player from Dublin Scioto to receive recognition on the All-World team. Clark was the leading scorer at the Harvard Fall Tournament mirror hosted at Comet Winter Clash.
