5/3/2013 – Last Major Rankings Update!

Note that this update includes a lot of new calculations for difficulty adjustments. We now have over 4000 stat lines for over 2000 teams. These teams make up, in my estimation, the top 5% of quiz bowl teams in the U.S. and Canada.

I should specifically note that a few tumbles in the rankings from this set are due to some split teams being discovered and a couple of major stat errors being discovered. These have been accounted for and reflected in the following rankings.

Dropping out: 74 St. John’s B, 76 Arcadia B, 78 Ladue B, 80 Hume-Fogg, 82 IMSA B, 85 Harmony A, 87 University, 92 Parkway West, 93 Corbin, 94 Robinson, 95 Naperville North, 96 North Kansas City, 98 Irvine B, 99 Wheaton North, 100 Utica Academy
Entering: 50 Athens Academy, 53 North Hollywood B, 64 Oak Ridge, 67 Manheim Township, 70 Farragut, 83 Raleigh Charter B, 84 Livingston, 86 Lexington, 90 High Tech C, 91 Bergen County A, 92 La Jolla A, 93 San Dieguito A, 95 Hunter B, 97 Culver A, 100 Metea Valley

Major Rankings Update Tomorrow

Check back tomorrow for an updated list of the top 100 quiz bowl teams. There’ll be one minor update before HSNCT and NSC. I’ll also be sending emails to teams to notify them of their placement, once it’s been finalized.

Edit: also, that will be the 100th post on this site. Seems appropriate.

Editx2: It should be visible around 11 a.m. ET on May 3rd.

Expanded Rankings – Top 100 – 3/8/13

So, I took a bit of time and expanded this list to 100 teams. We’ll try to stay at this many teams for the rest of the season. Note that this is just an extension of the previous rankings, so the previous rankings for the top 50 won’t have changed.

I’ve decided to remove Bellarmine B from the rankings, since its best performances came with players who played on the one tournament that a true Bellarmine A team has been at.

The next ranking update my come in April, though I will be busy with finals; there is a possibility that this might be the last one until the pre-nationals ranking. There will not be a post-national ranking this year.

Update: had inflated stats for Kickapoo, giving them about 10 extra ppb on one tournament; obviously, that’s going to affect things. Dropped them from the rankings, moved everyone else up, including Utica Academy A.

High School Quiz Bowl Top 50 Update – 2/26/13

So, this time we had a couple of issues come up from the Texas Invitational. Stats were not up for the ACF portion of the competition as I did this, so Bellarmine A – with Sameer! – and their first full performance is not considered for this. Additionally, Northmont was missing Sam Blizzard for a significant number of matches during this event; I’m not sure if I will consider just those games or do what I did here & just use the default stats. It’s something I’ll have to consider.

Entering: 44 Kellenberg A, 45 Western Albermarle A, 47 High Tech A, 50 Irvine A

Falling out: Bellarmine B (42), Russell A (45), Carbondale A (46), Ezell-Harding A (47)

Unofficial Rankings – Every Team By Their Best aPPB

I decided to go ahead and output a list of every single team I have listed by their single best adjusted PPB. This list will differ from my subjective, official rankings; the reason for this is that while I do give the most weight to a team’s single best performance, I also compare similar teams’ other best performances to do those rankings.

It should be noted that this is not considered an official ranking.

Minor Rankings Update – 1/9/13

Minor Update for the new year; incorporating only one tournament (Scarsdale hasn’t posted combined stats yet, and I reserve the right to not put that much time into coming up with those at this time). Made a few flips after looking at things a little more as well; biggest jump was Belvidere North up to 12th.

And I guess you could call 26-28… Saints Row.
