Top 60 – October 17

Only have results for one tournament to add, that being the UIUC Earlybird on OLEFIN. That produced enough stat lines where I didn’t want to just go with 55, so I slid the next couple of teams in from the bottom.

I’ve removed Cistercian B from the rankings since the main scorer for that team is going to be on their A team most of the time. I’ve moved their A team up accordingly.

IMSA gets a bit of a boost from a strong performance, and I resist the urge to move Auburn even higher given that their team was short two of their top players. Still going to wait for Bellarmine and Centennial to actually play something, for now at least.

After that, Latin School, New Trier, Macomb, and Rock Bridge all move in pretty much as one group.

1. Hunter A (NY) (1) – PHSAT (IS107, 513.8 ppg, 7.3 15pg, 22.47 ppb) – missing two A team members

  1. Auburn graduated two of their top players last year, and one of them was a fantastic science role player. Abid and Lloyd especially improved a lot, but I’m not convinced that two more players will do enough to raise their standing.

    • Yeah, Auburn missing two players is not that much of a factor considering how amazing Lloyd and Abid are.

Seeing these rankings just makes me want to go out and play things so we have a chance to get ranked<_<.

      • Filip didn’t graduate. He was a noticeably contributing player all last year, so I think it’s legitimate to think Auburn deserves a little leeway in their ranking due to his absence.

  2. I think that it is true that Filip is probably being a bit over-rated here as he was about a 15 ppg player last year who attended neither national and hasn’t played in a tournament since mid-April and their 4th is almost definitely not going to contribute all year. However, I totally agree that Auburn shouldn’t be dropped down just yet as we really only have 1 set of questions to go on so far, they finished 7th in the nation last year, and Lloybid will continue to improve throughout the year as the always do.

  3. For the record, Filip is pretty much always kind of an enigma, even for us. If you look at the Illinois NAQT state qualifier last year, he was really good, and then he was a very minor contributor at the Prison Bowl mirror. It’s really hard for either me or Lloyd to tell exactly what or how much he knows, aside from the fact that he is, by far, the best history _student_ at Auburn. We have a decent idea of who our fourth will be, depending on whether or not it’s NAQT. He will not be a superb player or anything, but he won’t be completely useless. Overall, Nolan is almost dead-on.

Also, Filip wasn’t at PACE last year because his mother died of cancer just before PACE. He would have certainly started for us had he not been stricken with that.

  4. I was partially in error here because the last time I looked at Earlybird’s stats, they were borked and had Filip playing for Auburn Saturday. Nolan and Abid know what they’re talking about.

    • Regarding the Auburn situation: if Filip contributes “just” the equivalent of 0.5 ppb, that can make a huge difference in their standing. I made no real change to their ranking and don’t anticipate it happening for now, but I don’t think we’ve seen their best play yet and I believe they have the highest OLEFIN ppb.

  5. I did not expect us to be ranked here but it’s cool to see it. We’re going to improve a lot once the calendar turns to next month… hopefully we’ll prove it at Penn (if that tournament is happening) in November.

    • Given that practically every team from Georgia that isn’t Centennial lost a majority of their scoring, and that none of them have “full” stat lines for this season, it’s not exactly shocking.

      • Well Brookwood brings back all from a decent finish at HSNCT.

But yeah im guessing GA teams shouldnt expect much till the Harvard Fall Mirror or ACF Fall if any are willing to go.

If only Walton had used OLEFIN or something…
