Here’s our midseason rankings. I decided to expand this one to 100, though I think we’d probably go back to 50 during the semester. Adjustments and a PDF output of appbs will be posted at some point soon.
Edit 1: had Cave Spring twice, deleted second Cave Spring from 91 and put in Stevenson B at 100.
Edit 2: Also had Walnut Hills twice. Deleted the second listing from 79 and moved everyone on up one spot, with High Tech C getting in at 100.

This is the final set of rankings until about Christmas (so, a month). We’ve expanded to 50 teams, we’ve had a team jump into the top 25 that wasn’t there before (Belvidere North, what up), and we’ve simplified the layout. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
Ratings after the jump. Continue reading
Here are the earliest set of rankings for this season. I have listed each team’s adjusted points per bonus. Preseason rankings are completely ignored at this point.
Edit: turns out my Mission San Jose A stats were incorrect, putting them a bit lower than they were before. I’ve updated the top 25 and replaced them with St. Joseph of New Jersey.
You should be able to find the list of all teams I have stats for, with their adjusted appb, here. Note that I have only estimated the difficulty of ACF Fall and BDAT, and the rest are about a week or two out of date. I hope to have a full update, with rankings, posted sometime between 11/13-11/25.
I don’t trust the numbers we have so far to generate a full set of rankings, but I’ll go ahead and post a list of the top 31 stat lines by adjusted PPB that have happened this year. (I went with 31 since that’s all the teams that have aPPB above 21 at this point). Continue reading
We’re still waiting on enough data to have reliable difficulty adjustments.
If you have any questions you want to ask, feel free to submit them to the site’s Formspring. I will answer anything related to the rankings or quiz bowl in general if I feel there’s something valuable to be said on the issue.
I have posted a FAQ that tries to explain how these rankings work a bit more.
The first update should be expected no earlier than mid- to late-October.
I will give a quick peak at the one tournament that’s happened so far – the University of Alabama’s William R King Invitational. Assuming conversions and PPB distributions are the same as last season and that the stats – which are currently playoffs only – are appropriately representive, this Hoover A (AL) performance would have been around 100th-110th in the country. St. Andrew’s (MS) would be in the neighborhood of 150th.
