2014-15 Quiz Bowl Season Preview: Part Fifteen

We’re up to #s 51 through 60, without #56 Wilmington Charter B.

60. State College A (PA) – Because State College is kickin’ rad, they use pseudonyms because it’s still 1997. Who knows, whatever.

Expected performance next season: Toucan Sam! Goku! Billy Pilgrim! Cultural references!

59. Loudoun County A (VA) – The 54th place team at NSC, this team loses both Mason Hale and Trevin Gandhi. Reese Fulgenzi is still talented enough to make this an important team next year, but I don’t know if he and Jack Zent can flirt with the top 50 next year.

Expected performance next season: Down

58. South Range A (OH) – After tying for seventh at the NAQT SSNCT and for 53rd at NAQT HSNCT, South Range loses everyone from their A team to graduation.

Expected performance next season: Down

57. Westminster A (GA) – Tying for 29th at PACE NSC, they do lose two players to graduation but retain their top two scorers, Nilai Sarda and Annabel Shu. I don’t know if they’ll go up a lot next year, but they should be a top 50 team.

Expected performance next season: Up

55. Hallsville A (MO) – NAQT’s SSNCT champion, they also tied for 21st at NAQT HSNCT. They only graduate Lee, so with the return of Josh and especially Jared, this could be a top 25 team next year.

Expected performance next season: Up

54. Torrey Pines A (CA)
87. Torrey Pines B (CA)
– With their A team taking 34th at HSNCT and 20th at NSC, their B team also tied for 73rd at NSC. They lose a lot of scoring, but they return enough where they should be able to be around the top 50 next year.

Expected performance next season: Sideways

53. NCSSM A (NC) – The 56h place team at NSC, NCSSM returns almost all of their scoring. They should be in good position for a top 40 run next year.

Expected performance next season: Up

52. George Washington A (WV) – After earning the best finishes in West Virginia history for the two major nationals by going 57th at NSC and 13th at HSNCT. However, everyone graduates, so I doubt you’ll see an impact here.

Expected performance next season: Down

51. Seven Lakes A (TX) – After a tied for 13th finish at HSNCT, I estimate that Seven Lakes will be unlikely to replicate that success without their lead scorer Andi Qi.

Expected performance next season: Down
